in the midst of dawn

the midst of dawn, not even 4 am
still snoozing city and dimmed windows
the magic smell of oncoming morning
no wind nor sounds to disturb this stillness

yet so awake, like many time before
surrounded by a darkened glow of the street lights
night music seeping through broken headphones
filling the head with much-needed mellowness

tingling sensations in every single body cell
old memories of unforgivable mistakes
a nightly ritual of anxious thoughts and guilt
in the midst of dawn and night music
